When Elsabe Ebersohn contacted me to help her with her website, I was extremely excited. I absolutely love working with other creatives – I truly believe when you surround yourself with creative people a little bit of their magic will rub off on you!
Meet Elsabe - Illustrator and artist
Elsabe is not only a Children’s Book Illustrator, she is also an Artist. She wanted her website to be very clean and easy to navigate and to be responsive and easily viewed on other devices as well.
Recent studies show that over 55% of internet users browse from their cellphones – therefor a website that looks great on the small screen is extremely important.
Elsabe also needed her website to be able to showcase the different books she has worked on, as well as examples of her artwork – all in a concise and cohesive way.
She is a visual artist above everything else – so we agreed that her illustrations needed to be front and centre and be the focus of a visitor’s attention.
lighthearted and fun
A Children’s Book Illustrator is lighthearted and fun – almost by default! This is Elsabe – she is passionate about learning new techniques and seems to bring fun into whatever she does. I happened to have coffee with her and was flabbergasted when she told me to paint with coffee, make ‘blobbies’ and give them faces and personalities. With absolute ease she managed to nudge drops of coffee in her sketchbook into funny cats in a variety of poses. Her laugh is contagious and it almost seems like a little girl-spirit still lives in her body.
We wanted to share a bit of her story on her ‘About’ page – and her photos speak volumes of the person inside and behind the illustrations.
A website, in my mind, should really grow with you, evolve while you evolve. A clean and simple site can accomplish this with ease.
creating concise content
An extensive portfolio can easily weigh a website down – but what to do? The more you can share, the better the chance that someone will see something they love and contact you.
Elsabe has a lot of projects and we needed to create a page that would not force the viewer to scroll down forever to find what they’re looking for. On devices such as cellphones this can be especially frustrating.
We therefor used image carousels to streamline the website without trimming the content. Elsabe has rich examples of her work – without weighing down her site and frustrating her visitors.
Every moment of this project was fun – from getting to know Elsabe, working through her beautiful content and bringing it all together. Thank you for trusting me with your website Elsabe!
